Refund Policy

Last updated: September 2026

If the SkyLink API turns out not to be right for you, we would rather give money back than keep a customer who is unhappy. We would like that to be a full refund every time. It can't be, because part of what you pay is spent the moment the payment goes through, and we can't get it back. This page explains what that part is, and how we work out what we can return.

This policy forms part of our Terms of Use (§6.4). Terms with capital letters, such as Billing Period and Included Requests, mean what the Terms define them to mean.

1

Summary

  • Refunds are partial, never full. For a subscription bought directly from us, we refund the unused part of your current Billing Period, less the costs that were already spent when you paid (§2, §3).
  • Overage, and Billing Periods that have already ended, are not refunded (§4).
  • Subscriptions bought through RapidAPIfollow RapidAPI's refund rules, not this page (§5).
  • Data Marketplace purchases are covered by the Marketplace Terms (§5).
  • Your statutory rights come first. Where the law gives you more than this policy, you get what the law gives you (§7).

Why we can't refund in full

A subscription is not like a parcel that can be sent back and resold. Three things happen as soon as you pay, and none of them can be undone by a refund:

2.1 The payment fees are already gone

Every payment runs through Polar, our merchant of record, and the card networks and payment processors behind them. They charge a fee on each transaction, and that fee is not returned to us when a payment is refunded. A “full” refund would mean paying the fee a second time, out of our own pocket, on a sale that no longer exists.

2.2 Your access starts straight away

Your API Key and your Plan's full allowance are live from the moment the payment clears. There is no delivery we can hold back or recall: from that point the Service is yours to use, whether you use it or not.

2.3 Every request has already been paid for

Answering a request uses server capacity, bandwidth, and the third-party data sources behind the Output. Those costs are incurred as each request is served, and a refund cannot un-serve it.

SkyLink is run by a sole trader, not a large company with room to absorb these costs on every refund. What we can promise is that the part you get back is worked out openly, with the same formula for everyone.

3

How your partial refund is calculated

3.1 What is eligible

The Plan fee for your current Billing Period, on a subscription bought directly from us through Polar, provided you ask before that Billing Period ends.

3.2 The formula

refund = Plan fee × unused share − non-recoverable fees

unused share = 1 − the larger of (A) and (B)

(A)The share of the Billing Period that had passed when you asked
(B)The share of your Included Requests you had used when you asked
Non-recoverable feesThe payment processing and merchant-of-record fees charged on the original payment, as recorded by Polar for that transaction (§2.1)

We take the larger of (A) and (B) so that the result is fair both ways: a customer who used most of their allowance in the first few days pays for what they used, and a customer who barely used the Service pays for the time it was available to them.

3.3 Worked example

The figures below are illustrative, not our actual prices or fees.

Plan fee$100 for a 30-day Billing Period
You ask onDay 6, so (A) = 6 / 30 = 20%
Requests used10% of Included Requests, so (B) = 10%
Unused share1 − 20% = 80%, so $80.00
Non-recoverable fees$4.40 on the original payment
Refund$75.60

3.4 What happens next

  • The refund is issued through Polar to the payment method you originally used. How quickly it reaches you depends on your bank or card issuer.
  • Any VAT or sales tax on the refunded amount is handled by Polar as seller of record.
  • Your subscription is cancelled when the refund is issued, and your API Key stops working at that point, since the unused part of the period is what we are refunding.
  • If the formula produces zero or less, there is nothing left to refund.
4

What is not refundable

Overage: it is billed in arrears for requests that have already been served
Billing Periods that have already ended
Fees for a subscription we suspended or terminated because you breached the Terms of Use (§13 of the Terms)

If you simply forgot to cancel before a renewal, ask as early as you can in the new Billing Period. Because (A) grows every day, the earlier you ask, the more you get back.

5

RapidAPI and the Data Marketplace

  • RapidAPI. If you subscribed on the RapidAPI listing, RapidAPI is the merchant of record and bills you under its own terms, so refunds for that subscription are decided by RapidAPI's policy, not this page.
  • Data Marketplace. Downloadable datasets are covered by §7 of the Marketplace Terms. A dataset cannot be returned once its files have been delivered, so the calculation above does not apply to it.
6

How to ask for a refund

  • Email [email protected] from the address on your subscription, before the current Billing Period ends.
  • Include your Polar order or subscription ID. You can find it in your Polar customer portal.
  • We reply with the calculated amount before issuing anything, so you can check it.

Please come to us before opening a chargeback with your bank. A chargeback takes weeks instead of days, and the card networks charge a dispute fee whatever the outcome.

7

Your statutory rights

Nothing in this policy limits a right you have under mandatory law. In particular, if you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you may have a statutory right to withdraw from the contract. Where that right entitles you to more than this policy does, including a full refund, the law applies instead of this policy.

Polar is the seller of record, so a statutory withdrawal right is exercised against Polar and under Polar's terms (see Terms §6.4). Polar also reserves the right to issue refunds itself, under its own terms, independently of this policy.
